VISUAL ARTIST: MELISSA SADIE WRIGHT
(1975) Born in Kent, UK / Based in Asturias, Spain and Caterham, U.K. (but travel & work Worldwide).

QUALIFICATIONS:
KENT INSTITUTE OF ART & DESIGN, Canterbury, Kent, UK (Sep 1993 - Jul 1997): BA (Hons) FINE ART – Specialized in Painting.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:

“EcoArt Paintings utilizing natural available resources reclaimed from the environment, and a fusion of materials: Acrylic on canvas/hessian/ recycled fibrous paper-pulp, & often, incorporating intricate embroidery.
The work is humble, yet at the same time includes cutting edge technology -  photo-luminescent pigments & high gloss resin (the paintings have two very distinctive artistic effects,  during the day, and, at night when they transform into a stunning glow! ).

A celebration of beauty in nature, a journey, an intervention …Process of ceaseless renewal: light, movement, change, ebb & flow, growth & decay. (Relating them to the element of time – Seasonal changes/Temporality). Exploration of place: patterns, textures and colour. Space in constant transformation.(Various styles – Abstract, Landscape, Equestrian, Fine Art Photographic Giclees... etc)

Each piece is deeply embedded with traces of where it was executed, both via the moulding of the canvas over the rocks etc, &, by the referential organic particles that physically enrich the pigmentation itself (in the form of sand particles from the riverbed, pollen etc). My work is connected at every point to the phenomena of the natural world: Constant dialogues highlighting organic shapes & rhythms, colours of flowers, trees and rocks, light and atmosphere. The forms of my pieces – spirals, circles etc are powerful expressions of the patterns and rhythms of growth.

TEXTURED MURALS: that incorporate 'EcoArt' paintings into the space, site-specifically designed to encompass & reflect Natural settings and Architectural elements (Colours of materials - stone, wood etc). My approach to colour selection involves careful consideration of natural light sources, space dimensions, permanent interior elements etc.
I emphasize colour palettes inspired by the direct location, (using Mixed-media: Ecological paints, natural pigments, sawdust, stone chippings etc), so its an integral part of the entire project environment. This organic approach results in a continuity of concept creating a seamless flow of colour / space / energy... you don’t know if the colours jumped off onto the wall, or if the wall colours jumped into the paintings! They are perfectly connected in harmony".
